Update regarding access to the Mount Pleasant Sports Park.
As you know, this past fall, higher than usual traffic volumes were seen at Mount Pleasant due to the opening of the new dog park. As a result, City staff have been exploring options to mitigate traffic concerns at the south entrance to the park adjacent to 9th Avenue North, even after the implementation of the two way road (south access road). Last week, City staff from the Roadways and Transportation Department, Water, Waste and Environment Department, along with the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department, met to discuss the feedback received from various user groups. We assessed all the available options, and determined that use of the road located just north of the speed skating oval during the winter months will no longer be pursued.
Instead, all residents accessing the park will use the entrance to the bulk water station, which is illustrated in the attached map. This arrangement will be in place temporarily until the spring. While this option may not be ideal for everyone, there is a permanent solution planned for the entrance to the park, which will be implemented this year as part of Winnipeg Street realignment project. As such, the current solution will only be in place for the remainder of this season.
